Matt Douglas's new record Affirmation (with Discomfort) is a collection of pieces that outlines the (imagined) seven emotional stages predecessing the consignment to marriage. All of the instrumental compositions are written and played by Matt, using only woodwinds. The pieces incorporate melodic ambience, block harmonies, improvisation, and subtle deterioration that happens with repetition. Mixed by friend and producer Sam Kassirer (Lake Street Dive, Josh Ritter, David Wax), who pushes and expands the voices just outside of their acoustic comfort zone.
